As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word and pdf document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

All submitted manuscripts must be prepared in strict accordance with the 6th edition (2nd printing) of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA; see http://www.apastyle.org/). The authors may find the following article from the ICA Newsletter helpful; it details the main differences between the 5th and 6th editions of the APA Publication Manual: http://www.icahdq.org/publications/publicnewsletter/2009/9/SEP09_APAREVIEW.asp.

  • Articles should be original and should not have been published elsewhere. It is assumed that articles are not currently under review with other publishers.
  • Articles should include: (a) article title, (b) author name/s, (c) current position/affiliation, (d) brief biography, (e) email and postal addresses, (f) a brief abstract (200-250 words) with five key words of authors choosing and (g) the URL for author/s' personal web page, all on the first page of the article.
  • Although there is no absolute limit on length, submitted papers should be confined to approx. 6000-8000 words.
  • Authors are expected to carefully proofread their work before submission.
  • Articles that do not conform to the stated submission guideline will be returned to author/s for revisions.
  • Authors are responsible for obtaining any necessary permission from copyright holders for reproducing previously published material, including charts, graphs, photos, tables, etc.
  • Although there is no restriction on the inclusion of graphs and pictures within a submission it is recommended that only tables be used.

Plagiarism

The Journal of Media and Communication Studies has a strict policy regarding plagiarism. We use Turnitin software to test all submitted manuscripts for this purpose, any submission with a similarity index above 17% is automatically rejected and returned to the author.

Book Reviews

AMCAP JMCS publishes one book review per issue. Only books pertaining to the field of communication are accepted for publication.  It is expected that the review is in an academic format.
